If your Tuckerton home’s chimney is older than the Jersey Shore’s boardwalk, ‘licensed & insured’ isn’t enough. Many sweeps in our area slap that label on their vans but skip critical steps, like verifying NJ masonry credentials or carrying actual liability coverage for brickwork repairs. Wesley R Chimney LLC holds both, plus a team trained on the quirks of pre-1950s chimneys (the kind still standing in your neighborhood). Here’s what to ask, and why it matters before your next sweep.
‘Licensed’ in Tuckerton Doesn’t Mean What You Think It Does
Here’s the catch: New Jersey doesn’t require a state license for chimney sweeps, but that doesn’t mean anyone can show up with a brush and call it a day. What separates pros like us is local masonry expertise and NJ-specific insurance. For example, our crew knows how Tuckerton’s salt-air climate accelerates rust in flue liners (a common issue in older brick homes near the bay). We’re also bonded for repair work, so if we find cracked mortar or a failing cap during your sweep, we can fix it without sending you to a separate contractor. Ask us for a written estimate before booking, we’ll show you our certifications and explain what’s covered. See our service list for masonry repairs. More on this in our service list.
‘Insured’ Should Include More Than Just ‘Accidents’
A policy that covers ‘slips and falls’ won’t protect you if a sweep damages your chimney, or worse, your roof. Wesley R Chimney LLC carries commercial general liability that extends to masonry work, plus workers’ comp for our crew. Why? Because in Tuckerton, where many homes have original 1800s brickwork, one wrong move can mean a collapsed liner or water damage behind the facade. We’ve seen ‘insured’ sweeps in Little Egg Harbor or Manahawkin or Beach Haven leave homeowners with hidden costs after a botched job. Check our about page to meet the team behind the work. For a free inspection, book online or call us, we’ll verify coverage before we start. Worth a look: reach us for a written quote.
